FIGURE OF SPEECH

A  figure of speech  is a word or phrase that possesses a separate meaning from its literal definition. It can be a metaphor or simile, designed to make a comparison. It can be the repetition of alliteration or the exaggeration of hyperbole to provide a dramatic effect. (   वाक्यों के रूप को अलंकरित करके उनसे दिये जा रहे संदेश के असर को अधिक प्रभावशाली बनाया जाता है ।  वाक्यों के रूप को संशोधित करके अलंकरित करने के लिये Figure of Speech या अलंकार का उपयोग किया जाता है ।                           "   अथार्त जो शब्द काव्य की शोभा को बढ़ाते हैं उसे  अलंकार  कहते हैं। "   )

There are many different types of figures of speech.    Simile Simile is a comparison between two objects using the words 'like,' 'as,' 'seems' or 'appears.' Example: 'My dog is like a tornado; she dashes through the house, destroying everything she touches.' The first part contains the simile: the dog is being compared to a tornado . The second part explains the comparison. The dog is like a tornado because she destroys things wherever she goes. The use of the simile gives a better picture of the dog and adds some color to the description. These are the examples of simile :- You were as brave as a lion. They fought like cats and dogs. He is as funny as a barrel of monkeys. This house is as clean as a whistle. He is as strong as an ox. Your explanation is as clear as mud. Watching the show was like watching grass grow.
